Meeting a date online doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t be careful. It’s hard to get a good idea of what kind of person they really are from an Internet conversation, so you should be very careful when meeting potential suitors, especially for the first time.
People can be tricky to read, especially over IM or the phone. Your first meeting will most likely be the first glimpse you get to see of how they act in person, unless you’ve chatted over web cam before. Online dating can be a great way to meet people, and it provides a degree of safety and anonymity.
There are some precautions that you still need to take, and we’ll go over them here:
- If your dating service has a chat room, be careful about revealing your personal info. These rooms are havens for predators who will use that information against you.
- Don’t include personal identifiers in your profile, messages, or chat room talks. Things like your full name, address, city, phone number, employer, and such shouldn’t be provided to just anyone!
- Communicate through the dating service. Don’t hand out your personal email address or IM handle until you really feel like you can trust someone, as many dating services provide these tools on the site.
I peeked at this guys profile and it notified him that i did, so he peeked at mine, and so on. Then we couldn’t talk because of fee’s that were needed to communicate via that site. So i curiously went on to another site and made a profile sincerly, also wishingly that he’d be on that one. Turned out, he did the exact same thing!
Now we are chating via IM on MSN messanger. I am skeptical and intimadated to meet him, how do i meet him in a positve, up beat, social enviroment for the very first time!?
You’re best bet is to meet him at a coffee shop like starbucks. Just set up the “date” so it’s like “I have about 30 minutes to meet up before a meeting…” That way, if it doesn’t go to well, you can bail after 30 minutes.
